My name is David and being English I am the international liaison guide. I have been in Villach for 8 years and I came here for the mountains. My preferred style of biking is somewhere between trail and enduro but I am a sucker for speed and flow. When I am leading a tour I tend to find routes with multiple ups and downs.
I built my bike, named Bumble, 4 years ago to cope with all the local terrain and it is happiest at speed like me! I choose my components for the best compromise between functionality, reliability and price. For shifting there is no need to look further than Shimano XT. It just works. Braking is handled by Magura MT5s. I am on the heavier side so I need brakes that are going to cope with long fast descents. When I was building the bike the Magura Veyron wireless desktops had just been released. Being wireless it is so easy to fit and swap between bikes if necessary. There is an activation lag but for most situations you just forget about it. I chose to try 800mms bars for this bike thinking I would end up cutting them down but I really like the stability and position I get on descents so I left them. The bar itself is a Spank Spike with vibrocore, which is filled with foam to damp vibrations.
